This project - a collaboration between An Foras Feasa, the Irish Film Archive, Gael Linn’s Amharc Éireann collection and Boston College – builds a wiki-based collaborative learning environment around the Amharc Éireann collection.
The Gael Linn film collection is one of the largest and most interesting collections preserved by the Irish Film Archive. The Amharc Éireann collection (1955-1964), numbering 350 titles, consists of the Gael Linn produced newsreels and documentaries and a document collection of over 700 items. The range of Irish interest subjects covered (from hard news stories to magazine- like items) remain a rich resource for both programme makers and for students of Irish history. Amharc Éireann provides a vivid window into the development of modern Ireland at a particularly progressive point in its development.
