Around Queen's University and Belfast

Travelling to Queen's University

The University is situated on University Road, about one mile from Belfast city centre and is easily accessible by bus, train or on foot.  To get to Queen’s University, the following information may be useful:

By air:
George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD) is situated approximately three miles from the city centre.  A taxi to the University will cost around £10.  There is also a shuttle bus, which departs from outside the terminal building every 20 minutes and terminates at the Great Victoria Street (Europa) Bus Station.  The return fare is £2.20.

Belfast International Airport at Aldergrove is situated about 20 miles from the city centre. A regular Airbus service operates into the city centre, departing from outside the terminal building every 20 minutes. The shuttle bus costs approximately £6 single and £9 return.

Dublin Airport is approximately 160 kilometers (100 miles) from Queen's University Belfast. A regular bus service to Belfast operates 24 hours a day.

By sea:
Belfast is easily accessed by sea crossing from Scotland and England by high-speed catamaran or by traditional ferry.

By rail:
The main rail stations in the city centre are Great Victoria Street and Central Station. Cross-border ‘Enterprise’ services depart from and arrive at Central Station. You can easily get a taxi from the Central Train Station, and the fare to Queen’s University will be approximately £5. Alternatively, you can take a suburban train to Botanic Station, which is a 5 minute walk from the main campus. The Irish Rail service takes just over 2 hours to commute between Dublin Connolly Station and Belfast Central Station. This service operates a number of times a day.

By bus:
Ulsterbus services operate throughout Northern Ireland. Services arrive and depart at the Europa Buscentre and Laganside Buscentre.
The University is well serviced by the Metro buses and timetables are available via Translink or telephone +44 28 9066 6630.
Travelling time from Dublin to Belfast is approximately 2.5 hours by bus.

Bus Eireann operates the number 200 service from Dublin to the Europa Bus Station Belfast every hour 24 hours a day. This service departs from Busarus Station in Dublin city centre and has a pick-up point at Dublin Airport.

Aircoach also offers a Dublin to Belfast service.  Aircoach departs from Dublin Airport every hour throughout the day. The final stop for this service is Jury’s Hotel Belfast which is in Belfast City Centre.

By taxi:
There are several private 24-hour hire taxi firms in Belfast and also black taxi ranks.

By car:
Car parking is not available on the campus. We encourage you to share vehicles with friends and colleagues where possible as the streets around the University can be very congested.
